I am probably the only Mac OS X (Tiger) user that hasn’t dove into the wonderful world of Quicksilver.
I have read countless glowing reviews, but no one can really “describe” its concept, because it does so much!
Since I really do want to play with the software someday, I figured I better start keeping a log of the interesting sites that I will want to read when I install Quicksilver.
* Quicksilver’s main site
* MacDevCenter’s list of Mac OS X launchers
* The Unofficial Apple Weblog’s article search for Quicksilver
* 43 Folders Quicksilver category search
* Flickr plugin for Quicksilver
I will add links as more are found.
Before Tiger, I was a dedicated and enthusiastic Launchbar user, and (since I’m registered) could download the latest version, but with Spotlight I haven’t seen the need. Perhaps I was using it so shallowly that I didn’t see the need for anything more.
Comment by Cheryl on March 31st, 2006Yes, I have heard many people talk about Launchbar as well. I hate to say it, but I don’t like Spotlight much. It is slow, and I wish I could permanently stop it from indexing my external hard drive. All I found is temporary fixes…
The good news is Leopard is supposed to have improved Spotlight and the Finder. I am drooling!
Comment by debbieT on March 31st, 2006About not indexing your external HDs – if I’m understanding, what you’re talking about is the annoying way that, every time you go to Spotlight to search you’d hear it invoke your external HD? If that’s it, I found in System Prefs > Spotlight, under the Privacy tag, that I can exclude my external HDs. Much better
Thank you Cheryl, I had heard briefly about removing a drive from spotlight, but then I also heard it didn’t work when you unmounted, then later mounted the drive again.
I am giving it a shot, and we’ll see if it keeps it on the list. I regularly shut off the external drive, so it would be a pita to have to keep adding it to the list.
Oh and one more thing…it wasn’t *as* annoying when I used Spotlight (indexing the external hard drive)- it was more annoying when the contents on the hard drive drastically changed…my powerbook would end up slowing down just so spotlight could index the new materials on the external drive. sigh. Sometimes I just wanted to disable Spotlight forever!! LOL
I really hope your hint works! Thank you again!
