Splash of Style...Macs, Photography, Design, and other Passions

Holding my breath

March 28, 2009 by debbie T | WordPress

EEk, held my breath as I used the WordPress automatic updater. I have always updated manually using sFTP, but with the release of WordPress 2.7, there is now an option to auto update.

I used the auto-update on another blog, and it was quick and painless, but with the Splash of Style site, I didn’t know if it would mess up my personally coded theme. And it looks like it worked seamlessly. phew.

For those that haven’t updated to WordPress 2.7, do it! It’s great!

  1. I have gone to 2.7 but I did that one the old fashioned way. I’m thinking about doing the auto-updater to 2.7.1 though. One cool thing they instituted somewhere along the line (2.6?) is the ability to search for plugins from within WP and install from in there. No download and upload any more and it works great!

but of course run a backup of your database first, right? I use the plugin WordPress Database Backup for that!

  2. WordPress really has come a long way hasn’t it? I haven’t done the auto plugin yet. I will have to check into it…not that I use many plugins though.

  4. No, you aren’t missing anything. Just my clumsy way of describing it. It’s the main web site folder, with all your html, php, wp files, themes, plugins, etc.

I always back up that folder too, just in case.
